BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry makes remarks aimed at Sen. Bill Cassidy after the senator suggests that the Louisiana surgeon general write a generic COVID vaccine prescription.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced limitations on who is eligible for COVID-19 vaccines. Anyone over the age of 65 and anyone at least six months old with one underlying health condition can get the updated shot.

After Kennedy’s announcement, insurance companies and pharmacies were left confused.

Cassidy recommended that Louisiana Surgeon General Ralph Abraham write a “blanket prescription” for anyone who wants the shot, according to a USA Today affiliate. The blanket prescription is a pre-approved order that allows multiple people to get the vaccine without needing a prescription.

Landry posted to X, saying that “Big Pharma” would love Cassidy for that suggestion.

“The last time I checked, you have a prescription pad. Why don’t you just leave a prescription for the dangerous COVID shot at your district office, and anyone can swing by and get one! I am sure Big Pharma would love you for that one!” Landry posted.

Cassidy replied to Landry’s post, saying, “True conservatives should empower patients. Big government liberals make it harder to take action. Get big government out of a patient’s life.”

A CVS spokesperson shared that only people with prescriptions in 14 states, including Louisiana, are getting the vaccine. Three states have stopped distribution completely.
