Federal jury convicts Rockford man on child pornography charges

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A federal jury has found Stephen Canfield, 54, of Rockford, guilty on child pornography charges.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Canfield was in possession of child pornography on both his cellphone and a Dropbox account.

Authorities said the investigation was started after the Department of Homeland Security received a cybertip that the Dropbox contained suspected child pornography.

“This conviction should send a clear message that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois will not stop in its strong commitment to identify, locate, and bring to justice predators who exploit children,” said U.S. Attorney Boutros. “Safeguarding our children from those who seek to exploit them has been and will remain a top priority in our Office.”
