Trial underway for Baton Rouge man accused of stabbing woman to death
Earl Lee Johnson Jr., 39, was arrested in April 2022 in connection with the death of Janice David, 34. His trial started Monday, Sept. 8. Court records available online show that all charges were dismissed except the first-degree murder charge.
Initially, Johnson was indicted on charges of murder, second-degree kidnapping, obstruction of justice in a homicide investigation, unlawful posting of criminal activity for notoriety and publicity, theft of a motor vehicle valued at more than $25,000 and aggravated flight.
Police said David was found beaten and stabbed to death in a car on South Sherwood Forest Boulevard on April 18, 2022. Louisiana State Police notified East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office detectives about a live video on social media showing a man stabbing a woman.
