Driver medevaced after high-speed crash knocks down live power lines: SCCFD

(KRON) — A high-speed solo crash into a power pole Wednesday afternoon seriously injured the driver and knocked down live power lines in unincorporated Santa Clara County, said the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

SCCFD said crews responded to the 1400 block of Day Road at 3 p.m. to investigate the report of a vehicle collision.

“While traveling at a high rate of speed, a vehicle collided with a power pole,” said fire officials in a social media post. “Due to the hazard of downed power lines, Fire and EMS resources made strategic and careful access to the patient.”

The victim was medevaced to a nearby hospital, where their current condition is not yet known.

The California Highway Patrol Coastal Division is looking into the cause of the collision.

Whenever encountering downed power lines, fire officials warn individuals to stay inside their vehicles, call 911 and forewarn approaching commuters to stay back.
