Ruptured water line floods multiple Cupertino homes Friday

(KRON) — Multiple homes in Cupertino were flooded Friday after a construction crew struck a water line, according to the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

Firefighters responded at 9:57 a.m. to the 10000 block of Scenic Boulevard on the report of a ruptured water line. Arriving crews learned that construction workers had been excavating in the area and struck an 8-inch line carrying water.

Five homes on the block, which is just west of Blackberry Farm Golf Course, were impacted by the flooding water, fire officials said. The flooding mostly reached the garage areas. Water was shut off at 11 a.m.

“Three residences were asked to shelter-in-place, one home was vacant, and one other was evacuated,” SCCFD said. No injuries have been reported in the incident.

Electric and gas lines were secured, and power was shut down to the area to mitigate safety concerns with water in the homes. The Pacific Gas and Electric Company responded to the scene.

Crews remain at the scene as of 11:46 a.m. and are working to pump water from the area.
