Reaction poured in from across the political spectrum.
President Donald Trump reacted to his passing on Truth Social.
Congressman Troy Carter from Louisiana said on X, “Violence is never the answer — not in politics, not in life. We can disagree without dehumanizing, and we can debate without destruction. My prayers are with Charlie Kirk and his family.”
The public also responded, including a member of the New Orleans Fire Department.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill’s office shared this post from Ashley Creekbaum. The post in part states that the “bullet has a right to be there because it’s a gift from god.”
Murrill reacted to the post, calling the comment “unacceptable and disturbing.” The full post from the Louisiana AG can be found below.
“This comment on social media by a person in a position of public trust is unacceptable and disturbing. It’s even more disturbing in invoking God in the delivery of the bullet that took Charlie Kirk’s life. This was an indefensible, disgusting act of political violence with no place in a democratic society. Charlie’s life work was promoting free speech and thoughtful, prepared civil discourse. Although it’s a gross understatement of where we are, we clearly need more of that. I expect consequences for this individual’s grossly inappropriate comment.”
The search for the person who shot and killed Kirk is ongoing.
