A young woman died early Thursday morning and her toddler was hurt after she drove through a stop sign and was hit by another vehicle in southern Minnesota.
The Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened at around 7:10 a.m. at the intersection of 211th Avenue and 320th Street/County Road 28 in Derrynane Township.
Investigators determined that 23-year-old Mackenzie Glaser, of Belle Plaine, was driving north on 211th Avenue with a 1-year-old girl also in her Chevrolet Malibu.
However, Glaser missed the stop sign at the intersection and collided with an eastbound Chevrolet Express van that was pulling a trailer with another van.
The Malibu ended up in the north ditch of 320th Street, and Glaser died at the scene from her injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
The 1-year-old in the car was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Authorities told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that the child had no apparent injuries.
The driver and two teenagers in the van weren’t hurt.
The crash remains under investigation.
