RUSSELL COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL) — Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor addressed media members Wednesday morning and discussed a major drug and gun bust that happened on Tuesday.

The Sheriff says the SWAT team, along with the help of the Phenix City Police Department, was able to execute search warrants Tuesday morning at five different locations that belonged to 40-year-old Jorge Renteria in the Fort Mitchell area.

“As you can see, yesterday was a successful day,” said Taylor, as he opened the press conference.

Taylor also said that various drugs and items were seized in the bust, with 1.67 pounds of cocaine, 2.2 pounds of marijuana, 97 hydrocodone pills, 63 firearms, and three vehicles were recovered in the search.

Approximately $11,000 in cash was also recovered, while authorities also seized three of Renteria’s bank accounts, associated with Wells Fargo.

“We’re trying to forfeit that through the court system and so, hopefully, that will be successful,” Taylor said. “When we work together, both of us and the city, you see the results.”

The execution teams searched 80 Bradley Road, Lots 1, 2 and 3, along with 44 Bradley Road, and 34 Sweetwater Branch Road.

“The coordination to hit that many locations at one time is extreme,” Taylor expressed. “We worked really well, and closely with the Phenix City Police Department and their tact team.”

Renteria is reportedly known to law enforcement and has been in the community, according to Taylor.

Some of the firearms seized in the search could possibly be stolen, according to Taylor. He also says it is not common that a local dealer would have this many weapons in one or two locations.

“This was mainly out of the main house, and the Lot 2. I think this was a great effort on the part of the sheriff’s office and its investigative team, as well as the Phenix City Police Department for assisting us,” Taylor said.

He added, “We’re working with the district attorney’s office to seize the property at 80 Bradley Road Lot 1, his main residence.”

Taylor went into detail on the significance of the bust and the style of weapons Renteria had by saying:

“This seizure isn’t the biggest we ever had, but it is certainly significant in its size of dope that was seized, as well as obviously the weapons that you see here in front of you,” Taylor said. “Some of these weapons look like hunting-style shotguns, but there are a lot of assault-style weapons in front of you.”

Renteria is currently charged with trafficking cocaine, trafficking marijuana, along with possession of a controlled substance.
