A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday, Sept. 10 after four years of planning and construction.
St. Tammany Parish Mayor of Slidell Bill Borchert says the new facility is “a tremendous win for the city.”
“We are proud to welcome Amazon to our community. We look forward to the many ways this partnership has and will benefit our citizens, enhance our economy, and contribute to a bright future for not only Slidell, but all of St. Tammany Parish,” said Borchert.
The $40 million facility is expected to employ about 400 people. Facility officials said it will have a noticeable impact on the New Orleans area.
“You all should be seeing increased and more efficient shipping. Everyone here at the team will be happy to know that you’re already experiencing the fruits of what’s happening in this facility,” said Amazon Senior Manager of Economic Development Jessica Breaux.
The facility is currently hiring and will continue throughout the coming weeks.
Amazon also cut the ribbon on a new 150,000-square-foot facility in Jefferson Parish that is expected to bring same day delivery to the New Orleans area.
“Same-day is one of our fastest growing business lines, and we’re always looking to see where our customers want these services the most,” said Stephen Grant, an Amazon site leader.
