This year’s theme is “Reigniting the Call for Justice.” NAACP Louisiana President Michael McClanahan says this year’s convention comes at a critical time as civil rights face “unprecedented challenges.” He says voting is the start to making a difference in the community when it comes to health care, housing, environmental justice, criminal justice, and social security.
“We want people to get involved in what’s going on now. Not just when things are going bad. We have to start being proactive. We’re a proactive organization,” said McClanahan.
The civil rights organization was founded in 1909 and has a mission to fight for racial justice, equality, and the elimination of race-based discrimination, particularly for Black Americans.
The three-day event includes a Freedom Fund Banquet from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Roland Martin, broadcast journalist and NAACP member, is the keynote speaker.
Tickets are available now. A single ticket is $150, and a table of 10 is $1,500.
