BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Grammy-nominated folk musician and multi-instrumentalist John McCutcheon will perform Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Bloomington.
Known for his mastery of instruments ranging from hammered dulcimer and banjo to piano, harmonica and guitar, McCutcheon has been hailed by the late Johnny Cash as “the most impressive multi-instrumentalist I ever heard.” His live shows combine storytelling, humor and music rooted in folk traditions.
Over his career, McCutcheon has released 45 albums, received seven Grammy nominations and produced projects for artists ranging from traditional fiddlers to contemporary singer-songwriters. His educational books and recordings have also introduced many beginners to the craft of playing music.
In addition to his musical accomplishments, McCutcheon is recognized for his commitment to grassroots political organizations and workers’ rights, often using his platform to advocate for community issues.
Earlier this year, he released Field of Stars, his 45th album. On Sept. 5, he debuted a new project, Long Journey Home: A Century after the Mountain City Fiddlers Convention, featuring collaborations with Molly Tuttle and Old Crow Medicine Show.
