Grand Junction Colorado Temple opens its doors this week
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (ABC4) — The Grand Junction Colorado Temple opens its doors to the public starting this week, according to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Open house at the temple will begin Thursday, Sept. 11, and extend through Saturday, Sept. 27, excluding Sundays. President Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will reportedly dedicate the temple on Sunday, Oct. 19.
President Russell M. Nelson first announced the new temple during the April 2021 General Conference. It will be Colorado’s third temple, along with Colorado Springs and Fort Collins.

The temple is a whopping 29,630 square feet, sitting on a 7.93-acre site at 678 Horizon Drive in Grand Junction, Colorado.
“The temple incorporates elements that celebrate western Colorado’s natural environment, with special emphasis on the claret cup cactus — the state’s official cactus,” a news release from the LDS Church states. “Decorative paint inside the building also references Indian paintbrush, cliffrose blossoms and peach blossoms, uniting the desert landscape motifs with the temple’s spiritual significance.”
The interior is reportedly filled with crimson, amber, green and pale pink hues — a color palette in line with Southwestern canyon landscapes.
There are currently 382 temples dedicated, under construction, or announced, according to the LDS Church.
