PROVO, Utah (ABC4) — Both eastbound and westbound lanes are now open, according to UDOT.
“Eastbound travelers can expect residual delays as the congestion clears past the dam,” UDOT posted on X.
According to Lt. Cameron Roden, Utah Highway Patrol, the accident occurred near mile post 18 when a piece of rebar came through the front windshield of a northbound vehicle. It struck an 18-year-old female in the front passenger seat and impaled her in the chest, pinning her to the seat.
Airmed responded to the scene, but the female was transported by ground to Utah Valley Hospital. She is reportedly in serious to critical condition, according to Roden.
The investigation remains ongoing and UHP has not determined where the rebar pipe came from at this time.
No further information is available at this time.
