According to multiple tips and a statement from Monroe County Superintendent Jason Conaway, the Assistant Principal at Mountain View Elementary-Middle School was arrested on Sept. 5, after it was determined by responding law enforcement that he was under the influence of alcohol. Reports also said that the administrator had alcohol on school grounds.

A call was sent out to all parents at the end of the day on Sept. 5, about the situation, but due to it being a personnel matter, the name of the staff member was not released.

The full statement from Monroe County Superintendent Jason Conaway can be seen below:

The Monroe County Board of Education is aware that on September 5th the assistant principal at Mountain View Elementary – Middle School was determined by law enforcement to be under the influence of and possession of alcohol while on school grounds. As a result, the assistant principal was charged by law enforcement with two misdemeanors.

The school system is deeply disappointed that such conduct would occur, as it is wholly inconsistent with the expectations and standards of professionalism required of our employees. Candidly, the conduct is simply inconceivable.

Effective immediately, the assistant principal has been removed from his duties. Additional personnel action will be formally presented to the Board at an upcoming meeting, ensuring compliance with all personnel laws the govern school employees, including appropriate due process being afforded to employees that are subject to termination.

The school community, staff, parents, and families, have every right to feel concern and disappointment regarding this matter. We want to assure everyone, in particular our Hawks’ community, that the school system takes this conduct with the utmost seriousness. No additional comments will be made at this time.

The next Monroe County School Board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16.
