(KRON) — Police in Palo Alto are investigating after residents interrupted a burglary inside their home on Friday, according to authorities.

The residents, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 30s, reported to police around 11 p.m. that a burglary had just occurred at their residence on the 3300 block of Louis Road. According to the Palo Alto Police Department, the two were awakened by a loud noise inside the home and the man went to investigate. In the living room, the man found a stranger standing in the dark.

The man and woman “retreated to their bedroom and locked the door” before calling authorities, Palo Alto PD said. Arriving officers canvassed the area but were unable to locate any suspects.

Investigators determined that an “unknown number of suspects” arrived in an SUV and a rear glass sliding window was smashed to enter the residence. The suspects then fled in the SUV before police got to the home.

Nothing was believed to have been taken in the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Palo Alto Police Department at 650-329-2413.
