Join the statewide celebration honoring California’s 175th birthday

(FOX40.COM) — On Tuesday, celebrate California’s 175 birthday with the State Library to honor the historic milestone with cake, music, and family-friendly activities.

The California State Capitol will host one of many celebrations happening statewide to honor the anniversary of when California joined the Union on Sept. 9, 1850.

Gov. Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom announced in March that they were launching a working group across state agencies and departments to coordinate efforts for statewide celebrations.

“Throughout American history, California has been a beacon of innovation, shaping the very essence of the American Dream,” Newsom said. “The state has played a monumental role in igniting movements that have redefined industries, expanded rights, and shaped society.”

On 10th Street and N Street from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m., the State Library is hosting a block party for Sacramento to celebrate the state’s birthday. Attendees can enjoy music, food trucks, family-friendly activities, and a laser display 30 minutes after sunset as we celebrate this historic milestone.

The governor said there will be a free food truck fare, birthday cake, and California-grown treats, while supplies last.

“Californians themselves are what make the Golden State so special, driving our culture, innovation, and resilience,” Siebel Newsom said. “As we celebrate this milestone, we honor the generations who have shaped California into what it is today so we may continue to work together to build a future where every Californian has the opportunity to thrive.”
