Former Alabama sheriffs office sergeant indicted on theft, forgery charges
Former Sgt. Daniel Holifield was indicted on 12 counts of theft and possession of forged instruments, Blackwood said.
The MCSO hired Holifield in December 1998, and he was serving as the manager of the MCSO Fleet Department at the time of his arrest, News 5 learned.
Holifield was arrested in April 2023 on 13 charges, including three counts of first-degree theft of property and 10 counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
According to court documents, Holifield allegedly used official MCSO lettering and forged the signatures of three co-workers to purchase 10 cars.
Additionally, documents accused Holifield of stealing three cars: a 2005 Pontiac, a 2014 Chevrolet Impala and a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu.
Holifield was also accused of “cheating the system” to log 2,613 hours of overtime in 2022, amounting to $148,900.48.
His alleged crimes started in 2020, with the last one before his arrest happening in April 2023. The indictment comes from Holifield’s arrest on these charges. He is expected to be arraigned in the Mobile County Circuit Court in the coming weeks.
Since his arrest, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has made changes to the system used to log overtime.
