On Tuesday, five medical support staff were indicted and charged with conspiracy against rights and deprivation of rights involving Anthony “Tony” Mitchell, a 33-year-old man who died in January 2023 following two weeks at the Walker County Jail. In his report, the Walker County Coroner listed the cause of Mitchell’s death to be due to “medical neglect.”
Aleisha Michelle Herron, Patricia Hilton Hammonds, Bradley Scott Allred, Jamie Ann Johnson and Dana Michelle Blackwood McMillan have all been indicted in the case. They all worked for a medical provider contracted to the jail and allegedly oversaw Mitchell’s care while he was incarcerated.
“During Individual #1’s two-week detention, defendants ALEISHA MICHELLE HERRON, PATRICIA HILTON HAMMONDS, BRADLEY SCOTT ALLRED, JAMIE ANN JOHNSON, DANA MICHELLE BLACKWOOD MCMILLAN, and other co-conspirators known and unknown to the grand jury, failed to provide Individual #1 with constitutional conditions of confinement including, but not limited to, adequate food, water, clothing, shelter, sanitation, and medical and mental health care,” the indictment stated.
On Monday, six corrections officers were indicted in the case, charged with deprivation of rights. Others have previously been charged with a couple already pleading guilty in the case.
