At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, the Petaluma PD dispatch center was notified of a man who armed himself with a firearm after a family issue. The man was identified as 88-year-old Petaluma man Ronald Shipley.
Arriving officers responded to the home in the 1300 block of Marian Way and were informed that Shipley was armed and in the backyard. Police deployed a drone to find Shipley. The footage captured Shipley firing a single round while in the backyard.
Police ensured the residence’s occupants were evacuated.
Petaluma PD said Shipley was taken into custody after “several hours of attempted negotiations.”
Police dogs sniffed out where the firearm that police believe was used in this shooting was concealed.
Shipley was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for shooting at an inhabited dwelling.
