Kentucky State Police (KSP) announced that around 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 7, troopers with Post 13 in Hazard got a 911 call that there had been a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on KY-1148 in Whitesburg.
At the scene of the crash, troopers and emergency personnel found a dead man near a dirt bike, state police said. The crash victim was identified as 30-year-old Jonathan Stewart.
An initial investigation showed that Stewart had been driving the dirt bike on the highway when he allegedly lost control due to slippery conditions, causing the motorcycle to hit a guardrail.
Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.
State police wrote that he hadn’t been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and toxicology results are pending.
The deadly crash remains under investigation.
