Kentucky man killed in Whitesburg dirt bike crash

WHITESBURG, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Thornton man was killed in a crash involving an off-road dirt bike in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Kentucky State Police (KSP) announced that around 1:15 a.m. on Sept. 7, troopers with Post 13 in Hazard got a 911 call that there had been a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on KY-1148 in Whitesburg.

At the scene of the crash, troopers and emergency personnel found a dead man near a dirt bike, state police said. The crash victim was identified as 30-year-old Jonathan Stewart.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

An initial investigation showed that Stewart had been driving the dirt bike on the highway when he allegedly lost control due to slippery conditions, causing the motorcycle to hit a guardrail.

Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene by the Letcher County Coroner’s Office.

State police wrote that he hadn’t been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and toxicology results are pending.

The deadly crash remains under investigation.
