From September 8 to September 12, library patrons are encouraged to visit other branches of Shreve Memorial Library for their reading and research needs as Atkins Branch will be closed for unspecified changes.
Although the current maintenance fixes have not been listed, the library was recently closed in June 2025 for roof repairs.
The branch plans to reopen on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
The Atkins branch is not the only local library to undergo repairs; the city continues to provide updates for the downtown main branch, which has been closed since June of 2022, according to a digital timeline posted on the city’s webpage.
Repairs have included asbestos remediation, HVAC upgrades and most recently, the installation of clay roof tiles.
The Main Branch is estimated to be reopened sometime in 2026.
In the meantime, a full list of other branch locations and operating hours can be found at www.shreve-lib.org/427/All-Locations-Hours.
