MORSE, La. (
KLFY) — If you live in the
Village of Morse, it might be time for you to invest in some lawn and leaf bags.
The Village of Morse City Council adopted an ordinance Wednesday making it illegal to blow grass cuttings onto the roadway, officials said.
In a post on the Morse Police Department’s Facebook page, Police Chief Barton Kibodeaux said the new law will be enforced seriously.
“It will no longer be tolerated for grass cuttings to be on the roadway,” Kibodeaux said. “The first citation will be $50 for the first offense. Any offense after that the fine WILL INCREASE. So please when you are cutting grass along the roadway blow it back in your yard so that nobody will get fined.”
Kibodeaux said grass clippings left in the street creates a safety hazard for motorcycles and bicycles.
“While we don’t want to issue fines for this, however we do want to keep our roadways safe to travel for everyone,” he said.
