Louisiana State Police offer additional information on Wednesday’s officer-involved killing in Alexandria
ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) – Louisiana State Police have released additional details about an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead Wednesday afternoon in Alexandria.

The shooting occurred around 1 p.m. Sept. 3 on Chester Street near Rapides Avenue. Investigators said an Alexandria police officer was responding to a disturbance call when he saw a man nearby who matched the description provided by the caller.

As the officer got out of his patrol unit, the man immediately opened fire, according to State Police. The officer returned fire, striking the individual.

Officers at the scene provided medical aid until EMS arrived. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released pending notification of family. No officers were injured.

Louisiana State Police is leading the investigation, which will be reviewed in coordination with the Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities are urging anyone with information, photos or video of the incident to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously at lsp.org under “Report Suspicious or Criminal Activity” or by calling the State Police Fusion Center at 1-800-434-8007.
