Arch Manning’s Heisman odds drop significantly following week one loss

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Oddsmakers dropped Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning from the top of the Heisman Trophy odds after his performance in the season opener against Ohio State.

Saturday in Columbus wasn’t pretty for Manning. He finished 17-for-30 passing, with one touchdown and one interception.

“There wasn’t much to like,” Manning said Monday when talking to reporters.

It’s only a week into the season, but Manning took a huge fall in the race. Luckily, the third-generation Manning quarterback has until Dec. 13, 2025, to build his resume.

“For the most part, just, I got to play better for us to win,” Manning said. “You don’t like losing, especially opening week, going 0-1, but you know the sun comes up and it’s time to attack San Jose State.

The loss to the defending national champions moved Texas from No. 1 in the country to No. 7 in the AP top 25 poll.

The next three nonconference opponents for No. 7 Texas will not only dictate their top 25 ranking, but the odds for Manning to hoist the Heisman. At +1800, there’s great value for the first-year starter if he can dominate San Jose State, UTEP, and Sam Houston, before opening SEC play against No. 13 Florida on Oct. 4.

Noticeable changes from week one to week two on the Heisman list included Austin native and former Westlake High School star, Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik.

In Klubnik’s season opener at home in Death Valley on Saturday, the senior came up short 17-10 against SEC opponent LSU. Following that result, LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier became the new leader in Heisman Trophy odds.
