Heisman odds not in favor of Arch Manning after poor perfomance vs. UTEP

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Having a 2-1 record is likely the only thing keeping Arch Manning in the race for the Heisman Trophy, but if you watch the tape from the Longhorns’ 27-10 win against UTEP, it’s not a surprise that oddsmakers increased Manning’s odds from +1300 to +3500.

“Any time you have a good defense like that, it’s definitely a little bit easier, you don’t have too much on offense,” Manning said.

Manning played the entire game except for the final drive. In his second home game, Manning finished 11-for-25 passing, 114 yards, one interception, and three total touchdowns.

Manning’s early-season struggles have been noticeable as the offense continues to fail to put together dominating performances against non-conference opponents. On most betting websites, the Longhorns were 41-point favorites against the UTEP Miners, and the 17-point win was a best-case scenario thanks to the defense.

Unless Manning were to have an undefeated and undeniable run in the Longhorns’ SEC games, it’s almost guaranteed he won’t have an opportunity to bring home the Heisman Trophy.

That makes room for Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed to break into the top 10 after his stellar performance, leading the Aggies to a 41-40 win on the road in South Bend, Ind., against previously No. 8 Notre Dame.
