ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) – An unidentified man was shot and killed by an Alexandria Police officer, authorities said.
Louisiana State Police said the shooting occurred around 1 p.m. Wednesday on Chester Street near Rapides Avenue. Investigators said an Alexandria Police officer was responding to a disturbance call when he saw a man nearby who matched the description provided by the caller.
As the officer got out of his patrol unit, the man immediately opened fire, according to State Police. The officer returned fire and shot the individual.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released pending notification of family, authorities said. No officers were injured.
Louisiana State Police is leading the investigation, which will be reviewed in coordination with the Rapides Parish District Attorney’s Office.
