Child killed in accidental shooting, Baton Rouge police say

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A 3-year-old child was shot to death this morning in Baton Rouge, authorities said.

Emergency medical services said the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office was called to the scene of a shooting in the 4400 block of Sumrall Drive today.

According to preliminary reports, the Baton Rouge Police Department responded around 7:30 a.m. and found that a 3-year-old had been shot and killed. Preliminary reports also said this was an accidental shooting.

Further details on the child or the shooting were not immediately released. The investigation remains ongoing.
