BRIGHAM CITY, Utah (ABC4) — Brigham City is warning local businesses of a person asking for payment while claiming to be a fire department official.

City officials warned residents of Brigham City of a scam which involves an individual posing as the Fire Marshal. The individual is reported to have requested payment for inspecting fire extinguishers at local businesses.

“Several businesses have been visited,” Brigham City said in a social media post Wednesday.

Alec Hansel, the actual Fire Marshal, is pictured below and will be carrying a Brigham City badge.

Officials are asking anyone who may have received a visit from the fake fire marshal to report the incident to the Brigham City Fire Department.
