Two men were arrested late Tuesday night after an SUV sped throughout the metro, trying to evade police, before crashing into a fence in St. Paul.
Mounds View police say an officer encountered the vehicle heading south on Interstate 35W near Highway 96 just before 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As the officer tried to get the SUV to pull over, it fled, reaching speeds of up to 127 mph.
Police say the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter located the SUV within a minute, allowing police to end their pursuit.
The helicopter then continued to monitor the SUV as it drove throughout Minneapolis and into St. Paul. Eventually, it hit stop sticks and crashed into a resident’s fence in St. Paul near Linwood Avenue and McKnight Road.
Officers arrested both the driver and passenger, who tried to run away but fell down a hill, police say. He was found in possession of narcotics and had an active warrant out of Indiana, according to police.
No others were injured.
