Vet searches for owner of 66-pound tortoise found in Indianapolis
On Wednesday, Veterinarian Dr. Jessica Cox with the St. Francis Pet Hospital in Camby was finishing her afternoon at the clinic when she received a call. A man had located a pet tortoise walking on the east side of Indianapolis and requested her assistance. Dr. Cox quickly arranged a time for the tortoise to be brought into the facility.
According to Dr. Cox, the office was surprised to see the man had brought in a Sulcata Tortoise, weighing in at 66 pounds.
“These animals can live up to 150 years and weigh over 100 pounds,” she said in an interview with FOX59/CBS4.
Dr. Cox is, however, sure this tortoise is a missing pet.
“They can dig out from under fences or enclosures, but there is no chance he would’ve survived if he wasn’t found,” she said.
The tortoise currently remains in the care of the veterinarian staff but will soon be transitioned to a local foster. If anyone has any information, they can contact the St. Francis Pet Hospital at 317-831-3271.
