Suspect accused of attacking autistic man at Indiana park faces felony charges
According to Hammond police, 25-year-old Keshaun Brooks, a Hammond resident, has been charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor in connection with his alleged role in the attack.
Officers said the incident unfolded on Aug. 15, while the victim, an autistic man, was in the park.
Police say Brooks allegedly attacked the victim while at the park, leaving him uninjured.
Authorities eventually caught up with Brooks on Sunday, when he was arrested during a traffic stop.
“This arrest shows the dedication of our officers and the power of technology working together to keep Hammond safe. We are committed to protecting all members of our community, especially our most vulnerable,” a spokesperson for the Hammond Police Department said in a social media post announcing the arrest.
It is unclear if officers believe the suspect acted alone.
