HAMPTON, Ark. – A south Arkansas man is facing capital murder charges after his arrest by Arkansas State Police.

ASP officials said its Criminal Investigation was called into Calhoun County at the request of the Hampton Police Department, which was investigating an Aug. 31 death. The investigation led to the arrest of 55-year-old Roderick Freemont, who is facing a charge of first-degree murder.

Authorities said Hampton officers were called to a home on the 600 block of South 2nd Street at 6 a.m. Arriving first responders found 62-year-old Katherine Brice of Hampton injured and unconscious.

Brice was taken to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, where she died Sunday evening, according to ASP.

Officials did not disclose the nature of the injuries.

The ensuing ASP CID investigation led to Freemont’s arrest, officials said.
