Utah Highway Patrol confirmed that a call came in for a wrong-way driver around 6:20 p.m. near milepost five. A single vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes before it collided with another vehicle at milepost four.
UHP also confirmed there were two cars that were involved in the collision, a 2017 Cadillac sedan and a 2019 Toyota Highlander. Three people have been confirmed dead, and another was transported to the hospital by helicopter.
According to the Department of Public Safety, the driver and sole occupant of the Cadillac sedan was the wrong-way driver. She has been identified as Norene Jones, 89, from St. George, Utah and was one of the fatalities.
The Highlander driver and one of the passengers also died. The driver has been identified as Catherine Gray and the passenger has been identified as Jeffry Alan Gray, both 68 years-old and from Washington, Utah.
Nortbound I-15 is closed at milepost four and is expected to remain closed for several hours. Drivers heading northbound are being forced off at Exit 4 to rejoin the interstate at Exit 5.
