Texas man arrested for stalking woman in Pitkin

PITKIN, La. (WNTZ) – A Texas man was arrested Saturday after deputies say he followed a woman from a gas station to her home in Pitkin and was later found with tape, gloves, and marijuana in his possession.

Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested Daniel Gerard Lerette, 53, of Mount Pleasant, Texas, on Aug. 31.

Deputies were dispatched to the Tower Road area after receiving a report of a suspicious man and vehicle. The victim told deputies she had just parked in her driveway when she was approached by a man on foot. She said she then noticed a vehicle parked on the highway at the end of her driveway.

The victim ordered the man to leave, and he walked back to his car and drove away. She provided deputies with photographs and a license plate number, which helped authorities locate the vehicle a short time later on Highway 399 in Pitkin.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Lerette. Authorities said Lerette admitted he had seen the woman at a gas station in Leesville and followed her to her home, even though he did not know her. He told deputies he wanted to “meet and speak with her,” according to the sheriff’s office.

During a pat down, deputies found a roll of tape, a pair of gloves, and marijuana on Lerette, officials said.

Lerette was arrested and charged with one count of stalking and one count of possession of marijuana. His bond was set at $252,500. He remains in the Vernon Parish Jail.

Craft commended the victim for quickly reporting the incident and praised Deputy Bobby Cummings for his response.

“This is an alarming incident,” Craft said. “The victim’s quick thinking provided deputies with enough information to locate and arrest the suspect. I encourage residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately.”
