Preseason Blitz: Bossier bringing back QB, hoping to bring back success

BOSSIER, LA (KTAL/KMSS) – The Bossier Bearkats have struggled over the past few years, but they think things will turn around this season.

“I think we’ll win more than we are expected to win,” said head coach Gary Smith.

Bossier has gone 4-27 in the last three seasons but after a successful summer, the Bearkats are confident.

“It was great, like as a team we bonded, we build it, you could see the chemistry was there and like when we locked in, we did really great, really great,” said junior Quinton Hodge.

One new but old face for the Bearkats is quarterback Quinton Hodge.

“He played for us as a freshman, didn’t play last year, but he came back with us in the offseason and has done a great job at quarterback and I expecting big things from him,” Smith said.

After taking a year off, Hodge couldn’t stay away for long.

“Coming back to the game of football, when I left, I felt like dang, I gotta come back because I miss it a lot,” Hodge said.

Bossier is expecting him to bring some talent to the table.

“He can run a little bit and throw it pretty well, so he’s dual threat,” Smith said. “It was slow at first, but he’s done really well since then.”

Since his return a couple months ago, Hodge has grown in more ways than one.

“I definitely feel like I’ve become a stronger leader, and just being able to be be there for my teammates and lifting them,” Hodge said. “But like like towards actually being a quarterback I’ve had a great quarterback coach, Coach Harker, he’s allowed me to like just become a better quarterback. It’s great, and of course getting the weight room, getting stronger and faster, that’s that’s really important as well.”

Hodge has been welcomed back with open arms.

“Any time we’re in 7 on 7 and I get down on myself and like made the wrong read they said you’re good, like even though that’s my job, sometimes we all need a little. It’s just great that all my teammates are are that type of teammate,” Hodge said.

After all, those people are a big reason Hodge returned.

“I think my teammates, and really just playing it like what really made me come back, I was really just throwing the football around and I was like dang, I miss it,” Hodge said.

Bossier opens the season against North Caddo at home on September 5 at 7 pm.
