Hinds County sheriff discusses Labor Day weekend crimes in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Interim Jackson Police Chief and Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones addressed the violent crimes that occurred in the capital city during the Labor Day weekend.

According to Jones, the shootings during the holiday weekend pushed the capital city’s homicide rate to 40 for 2025. Three people were killed and others were injured during two separate shootings, including the quadruple shooting that occurred

“It’s my understanding that the investigators are working on possible suspect information once that information becomes developed and available and suspects are identified. Of course, that information will be provided,” said Jones.
