Salem Police Department said officers responded to several reports of gunfire, along with reports of four people being involved in a shooting and a female possibly being injured.
Officers canvassed the park and arrested four people on the pedestrian bridge – including three 17-year-old boys along with a 25-year-old man identified as Grant Pizzuto, according to Salem Police Department.
Authorities recovered a loaded .45 caliber handgun from one of the teens after a “brief struggle,” Salem police said, noting another teen had a backpack with a short-barreled rifle inside.
With help from a drone, officers searched the park for shooting victims, SPD explained, noting officers were unable to find any injured individuals. However, officers found “additional evidence.”
The teens were taken to Marion County Juvenile Detention Center, with one teen facing charges for unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and interfering with a police officer.
Another teen was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a short-barreled rifle and unlawful use of a weapon. The third teen is also facing an unlawful possession of a firearm charge, authorities said.
Meanwhile, Pizzuto was taken to Marion County Jail and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.
Salem police said further details of the incident are not being released at this time.
