Lafayette power outage Monday leaves hundreds in the dark

(KRON) — A power outage in the Lafayette-Orinda area Monday temporarily left thousands of customers without power, according to the PG&E outage map. The map at one time indicated that 2,249 customers were without power along the Highway 24 corridor through Orinda and Lafayette.

According to PG&E’s latest update, 286 customers remain without power.

PG&E says the outage is unplanned and that its team is evaluating the electrical system to identify damaged sections and make necessary repairs. The estimated time for power to be restored is 5:30 p.m., according to the utility.

The outage comes as the Bay Area, and East Bay in particular, is in the midst of a days-long bout of higher-than-normal temperatures. The high in Lafayette Monday is expected to hit 96 degrees.

The outage was first reported to at 8:50 a.m.
