Teen killed, child injured in South Side shooting
Chicago police say the deadly shooting unfolded just before 4 p.m. Thursday in a vacant lot in the 600 block of West 47th Street in New City.
Officers say the victims, a 12-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy, were in the vacant lot when they got into a fight with an unknown number of individuals.
Amid the fight, officers say at least one offender in the group pulled out a gun and opened fire.
The 12-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to his chest and the 15-year-old was shot near his hip. Both were taken to the hospital, where they were listed in critical condition.
In an update shared early Friday morning, officers said the 15-year-old was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Currently, it is unclear what led to the fight and authorities say no arrests have been made.
Authorities have not identified the victim killed and an investigation is ongoing.
