The Pilots made history as the first collegiate baseball team to achieve a perfect 59-0 winning streak last season, earning them national recognition. That feat will now be immortalized on the Northwest Louisiana Walk of Stars
Individuals are usually inducted, but they are the second group to join the Walk of Stars, following the Centenary College Choir.
“We’ll also hope that the walk serves as an inspiration for young people. To see ‘Hey, he’s from here, she’s from here, and they made it big. Maybe if I apply myself, I can make it big too,” says Walk of Stars president John Lieberman during the induction ceremony.
LSUS Chancellor Dr. Robert T. Smith says the players are a perfect example of what it means to be a student-athlete, having dedication to both the sport and their studies.
“Our students who are from all over the country, and all over the world, we have one from Hawaii and one from the Netherlands. That these are a nice bunch of kids, and they’re great ball players,” he shares.
Head coach Brad Neffendorf says the support from fans and the community played a major role in the team’s success throughout the season.
“There are so many people that support, that have a piece and a hand. In putting the puzzles together to be able to make this program stay afloat, and obviously put us in a position to do what we did last year,” Neffendorf says.
