ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Some of the worst destruction of Hurricane Katrina was in St. Bernard Parish. 164 people lost their lives.
Their names are remembered and read aloud every year.
The lives lost were remembered at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in Chalmette. It was followed by a memorial mass led by Archbishop Gregory Aymond. While Katrina won’t be forgotten in the parish, the faithful were urged to look to the future and what’s to come.
After the mass a family of one of the victims put a wreath into the water as the Shell Beach Katrina Memorial.
