Virginia State Police investigating ‘suspicious death’ after remains found at High Bridge Trail State Park

PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia State Police (VSP) have identified a woman whose remains were discovered Saturday morning at the High Bridge Trail State Park.

On Aug. 23, around 7:30 a.m., two bicyclists were riding along the trail when they located the woman’s remains near the Prospect area of the park.

The woman was identified as 23-year-old Samantha Okinyi, of Prospect.

According to state police, her death is being considered “suspicious.”

The case remains under investigation by the VSP’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Department of Conservation Resources Law Enforcement and the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office.
