County hosts groundbreaking for new Clovis library, county’s biggest

CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Clovis will soon be home to the newest and biggest library in Fresno County. 

County library officials said the new library will be 26,000 square feet and will be located in the same plot of land as the senior center and transit center. 

The library will be much more than just books. It will be home to community resources, meeting rooms, and even a dedicated teen space. 

Fresno County librarian Sally Gomez said all of this, plus the size, will make this location special and much needed in the city of Clovis. 

“Our programming is extremely popular. We can barely fit it in our current location. So it’ll be nice to have a large community room,” Gomez said. 

Gomez said it’s crucial that they build the library for the growing community. The new building will replace the current Clovis library, built in 1976. 

“We’ve got benefits for everybody, and having a larger-sized library will definitely help us to provide those benefits,” she said. 

Fresno County Supervisor Nathan Magsig said the new library is being paid for with Measure B money, with the county setting aside $25 million for the project. 

“The citizens of Clovis have been waiting for over 30 years for a new library. And finally, it’s happening,” Magsig said. 

The library should be built by early 2027.
