MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD) — President Trump recently signed an executive order to prosecute anyone who burns an American flag. Those who burn a flag would be punished by one year in jail, no more and no less.

Personally I do not like when people burn the flag because I just think it stands for everything that our heroes have fought for to protect but I do also feel like that is an absolute first amendment right even though I cant stand it I do feel like its a protected right under the first amendment.

Trump says burning the us flag “incites riots at levels we’ve never seen before”, others say it’s their first amendment right.

I think it is an infringement upon my rights at the end of the day I have the right to do what I want although we do have state laws that govern us that were governed by at the end of the day if I don’t like the state flags just as much as I don’t like the president before or after I have the right to express myself the way that I feel.

Michael James, Monroe resident

The order has not been signed into law yet.
