ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) – Alexandria police are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle connected to a fatal hit-and-run crash earlier this week that killed a man in a motorized wheelchair.

The crash happened Monday night in the 3100 block of Hudson Boulevard. Initial reports suggested the second vehicle involved may have been a dark-colored Dodge or sports car with front-end damage. Police have since confirmed the vehicle is a dark gray Chevrolet Camaro, model years 2016 to 2018. The car is believed to have heavy damage to the front passenger side.

The incident claimed the life of 76-year-old Benny Bowie, who was struck while operating his wheelchair. Another driver involved, Kevin Batiste Sr., 52, was arrested at the scene and charged with vehicular homicide, DWI (second offense), reckless operation and driving under suspension.

Investigators are still searching for the Camaro and the person who fled the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Alexandria Police Detective Division at (318) 441-6416 or APD Dispatch at (318) 441-6559. Tips can also be emailed to APDDetectives@cityofalex.com.
