AU’s Campus Safety team sent out a social media post after 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to warn people to avoid the area near the library due to a “heavy police presence.” At the time, no other details were given.
However, by 5:48 p.m., the university had announced that police had cleared the area and that there was no active threat to the community.
“Auburn Police immediately responded to a false report of a possible threat on campus,” a statement from AU read. :Following a thorough search, authorities determined there was no threat to the Auburn University community.”
The threat came hours after a shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, where two children were killed and 14 others injured.
No other details on the threat have been released. The case remains under investigation.
