CHICAGO — A Chicago man accused of fatally shooting a woman on the city’s South Side last month is now facing a felony charge.
Chicago police say 22-year-old Xavier Tousant, who lives in the area where the incident allegedly unfolded, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder.
Officers say the charge stems from Tousant’s alleged role in a deadly shooting that left a 20-year-old woman dead on June 27, 2025.
According to police, the shooting occurred in the 5400 block of South Prairie Avenue, in Washington Park, just after 9:30 p.m.
Officers were initially called to the area following a report that a person had been shot. When they arrived, they found the woman, who had suffered a gunshot wound to her head.
The victim was later pronounced dead on the scene.
Authorities eventually caught up with Tousant on Monday in Marshall Square, where he was taken into custody.
Tousant is set to appear in court for a detention hearing on Wednesday.
It remains unclear what led to the shooting, and authorities have not provided an identity for the victim killed.
