Two young children are dead, and more than a dozen others are injured after a gunman fired shots through the windows of Annunciation Catholic Church’s Wednesday morning mass.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Lexington issued the following statement on Wednesday morning after learning the news.
A profound tragedy struck Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis during their opening‑week Mass: two young children, aged 8 and 10, were killed and many others—including 14 children—were wounded when a gunman opened fire through the church windows.
As a diocese rooted in faith and compassion, we stand in prayerful solidarity with the affected families and the broader community. May the promise of God’s love, comfort, and hope shine brightest in this moment of darkness.

Attorney General Russell Coleman called the act of violence “utter barbarity.”
“American children should be safe and feel safe in their schools, yet today our country faces more heartbreak as we learn of another school shooting, this time in Minneapolis. Britainy and I are praying for the families, students and teachers affected,” Gov. Andy Beshear said. “To my friend, Gov. Tim Walz, Kentucky is holding all of Minnesota in our hearts.”
The situation is developing, but investigators report that the shooter is deceased.
