Jackson locals respond to Chief Wade’s retirement news

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade announced on Tuesday that he would retire from the Jackson Police Department (JPD). Many residents have mixed feelings about the sudden announcement.

“I wish him a happy retirement. He has done very well. Let the retirement not be the end of your contribution to the community. We wish him very well and have a happy retirement,” said one Jackson citizen.

Some residents said the announcement raises concerns about the future of public safety in the capital city.

“It’s very alarming and surprising. It speaks a lot of volumes to the schematics of the entire police force itself, if the head of the force himself is stepping down. That says a lot about what’s going on and who’s running behind the scenes. I think it’s just very concerning, especially to the citizens here and to the community because it kind of leaves a lot of people unsure and uneasy about what’s really going on,” said one Jackson resident.

Despite the concerns, many believe Wade’s leadership left Jackson stronger, laying the groundwork for the city’s next chapter.
