Sweeney, 45, pleaded guilty to the charge of aggravated DUI causing death in June 2025.
According to investigators, Musil, 35, was parked on the shoulder of Route 23, just south of Perry Road in Waterman, around 10:30 p.m. on March 28th, 2024, when Sweeney’s Kentworth truck ran off the road and crashed into the back of her squad car.
She was taken to Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, where she later died.
A subsequent investigation by the Illinois State Police determined Sweeney was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
Musil was a 5-year veteran of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and a US Army veteran who served with the Army National Guard.
In court on Tuesday, Sweeney received the maximum sentence.
